  • Interview with Author & Punisher

    03 Oct 2025 - Thorsten

Author & Punisher is back! Several years after Krüller, which was the Album of that Year for our head honcho Thorsten, he released his latest record Nocturnal Birding and as guitar player Doug is now a full-time member of the band, this also marks a new era for the band. A little less shoegazey as its predecessor, the new album is surely heavier and a bit more industrial. The title is a reference to his interest in birds and also a sign for the record itself as there are numerous bird song elements throughout the tracks. There are samples or parts that resemble bird song and both ways are very intriguing because this natural element of course adds a whole different dimension to the already multi-layered music of Author & Punisher. We talked for all of this, his work as a machine developer, how he coped with the catastrophe that partially destroyed one of the spaces he uses for A&P and we also talk about his charity work along the American-Mexican border! Enjoy our conversation!

  • Interview with Cranial

    28 Sep 2025 - Thorsten

Cranial are amazing, their music is heavy, HEAVY!, but never aiming to overpower you. The long, winding passages can be delicately difficult, the integration of their new drummer has been done perfectly. The new record Structures with its four tracks will be released in a few days via their home label Moment of Collapse and it shows a band at a new level and simultaneously no bit less accomplished in what they do(om). We are very fortunate to have had the chance of talking with guitar player Bastian and drummer Felix and dive deep into anything and everything related to Structures and even find some parallels to 90s Roadrunner Records. Which one? Well find out!

  • Interview with Abraham

    23 Sep 2025 - Thorsten

Abraham have never been a band to shy away from big ideas. Just take their album Look, Here Comes the Dark which had to be spread out over more than your regular four side double album. A few years later they were writing their next record Débris de mondes perdus, they recognized that there were some loose ends left from the former opus MAGNUM, so they picked those up and created another great record. And now, in a couple of days they will release the final part of this un-planned trilogy with idsungwüssä and man, what a final part it is! So, we continue our Pelagic Drive and talk about this amazing record with their guitar players Etienne and Jacques. Enjoy our conversation and tell us how you liked the first two parts and what you think of the ending of the trilogy!

  • Interview with Superchunk

    21 Sep 2025 - Thorsten

Publishing more than a dozen full-lengths, countless singles and EPs by your band, one or two side-projects and bands, running your own label - one might wonder how Mac McCaughan is abe to keep a straight smile and such a healthy appearance (the guy might distill his blood for make-up purposes and make millions with it!). The new record Songs in the Key of Yikes - a perfect nod to one of America’s greatest musicians! - is not meant derogatory but shows that a certain humor is still important in this day and age and even though some tracks have a dark title the band still has something positive to say. As Mac is also still heavily involved in Merge Records, we also talk about the label, US politics and the interconnections. He clearly points out the effects that the new administration has on running a label, on the costs and the possibilities for foreign bands to tour the States or American band of getting back into the USA. His openness is really refreshing in a day and age when speaking your mind can get your show taken off the airwaves. Enjoy our talk with Mac and tell us what you think - how heavily will the music scene suffer from this administration?

  • Interview with Sunniva

    14 Sep 2025 - Thorsten

The Sunniva-festivities continue and come to the peak! On Friday, September 19 (next Friday, basically) their record will be released - and we want to give you a detailed interview to clue up some more of their things! A fun interview indeed it was, not only because Jaako was having lunch while it (thx to Rebl.Eats!) but because Jaako and Oliver put a lot of thought into their answers without any kind of boredom to it. They surely got a lot to talk about their band history of nearly a decade by now, their songwriting process and spontaneity and much much more.

  • Interview with Der Weg Einer Freiheit

    07 Sep 2025 - Thorsten

Der Weg einer Freiheit have been taking the Metal world by storm for more than a decade now from their hometown of Wuerzburg in Northern Bavaria with their mix of Black Metal and Progressive Metal. They shared the stages with acts as diverse as Amenra, The Ocean or Deafheaven which might also be a good triangular location point for their sound. Their upcoming record Innern is another huge step starting with two long tracks and ending with a track in English, only the third one they ever released. Thorsten and our new writer Kurt were able to sit down with mastermind Nikita Kamprad to talk about all things connected to Innern, anonymous bands, Christmas bells and you will also quickly find out, how Nikita and Thorsten know each other from way back!

  • Interview with Hundreds of AU

    31 Aug 2025 - Thorsten

“Life In Parallel” is the new record by Hundreds of AU, one of the finest Hardcore bands ever to come out of New Jersey. In a way there is also a certain sense of “Jersey” in the record and its songs, and be it only the diversity of sound reflecting the diversity of the state or the attitude of getting things done right from the beginning reflecting the “having a chip on your shoulder”-attitude of the Jersey-folks. But of course, the new record is also the band’s way of dealing with the events happening nationwide and around the world. After the band’s initial idea of an astronomically-themed red thread, this is certainly a change that came along with their new singer Brian. There is always a certain sense of urgency with Hundreds of AU and their emotionally charged tracks are fresh and show that the guys still have a lot to say. They do so throughout the ten new tracks and with the help of a lot of friends from the scene and taking all of that into account one can be sure that we have a lot of things to talk about, so enjoy!

  • Interview with Rún

    17 Aug 2025 - Thorsten

Rún - modern Irish for “secret” and also the name of a highly interesting new band from Ireland, comprised of three people who surely know what kind of music they want to make, even if it is music that can be very eclectic taking a lot of different influences and then melting and condensing them into the Rún-sound. A sound that fits perfectly to the roster of Rocket Recordings as it’s Psychedelic but not necessarily Psych Rock; it is -gazey but not necessarily Shoegaze, it’s even a kind of Post-Punk. As we talk about Diarmuid MacDiarmada, the brother of Lankum’s Cormac and now also a member of Nurse with Wound, about the record, the way it way conceived and is performed we also get to talk a lot about Irish music, the country and its culture in general. Thus, this is one of these highly interesting talks that we all love! Enjoy the conversation and remember to check out Rún’s self-titled debut LP out on August 22 via Rocket Recordings and let’s make sure that the band does not remain a secret.

  • Interview with Frédéric Leclerq (Sinsaenum, Kreator, Dragonforce etc.)

    10 Aug 2025 - Thorsten

Most of the times, bands that could be categorized as “supergroups” despise the term. When talking to Frédéric Leclerq one gets the notion that he likes the fact that he has played and plays in several huge bands but that he sees Sinsaenum as a group of friends who perform his songs with him. That these friends are Attila Csihar, Heimoth, Sean Zatorsky, Stéphane Buriez or the late Joey Jordison is something that will mostly impress us, the audience, but not Frédéric. Sinsaenum released their latest record In Devastation two days ago and in parts this is a testament to a multiple series of deaths in his closest family and circle of friends, including his father’s and Joey’s. However, one should not expect a lament in minor keys - the record still has a somehow good vibe, there are several amazing tracks on it and knowing that most of the things on the record come out of Frédéric’s mind makes it even more impressive. We sat down with him to chat about nearly everything related to the record and it was very nice to hear him talk very openly about many personal things!

  • Interview about "Don't Say Please" - die Kreuzen biography

    03 Aug 2025 - Thorsten

Erik Tunison and Sahan Jayasuriya are maybe a few years apart from each other, but both are telling a story together - the story of Die Kreuzen. One of those highly influential 80s Punk and Post-Punk bands, Erik and his band were together for roughly 1,5 decades, they moved away more from their Hardcore Roots with every record. Fast forward another 15 years after their demise and Sahan gets into Die Kreuzen and another bit later he gets into contact with the guys and starts collecting material for an “oral history” of the band, which is a great way of going about doing a biography for a band as influential as Die Kreuzen as he was able to interview many people like Neko Case, Butch Vig, Steve Albini and Thurston Moore. Seeing this list should already show you how important Die Kreuzen were, but please do not think that is the complete list, because NO, it isn’t by far! That way he found out a lot about the band, their music, the musicians and people themselves and their influence on so many people. Talking to Sahan and Erik was a pleasure and we are sure you will enjoy it as well!

  • Interview with Greg Kubacki (Car Bomb)

    27 Jul 2025 - Thorsten

A quarter of a century - that’s how long Car Bomb are now together. Such an anniversary of course demands for some new music and that’s what we will be getting on Friday, August 1 with their new EP “Tiles Whisper Dreams”, which will keep the course and will be self-released by the band. Thus we were utterly stunned to learn that their guitar player Greg was open to talking to us! We sat down with him and talked about the new record, their way of songwriting, the reason why they’re not on a record-label and much more! Therefore - enjoy our talk with Greg and find out why we mention Metallica, Kid Rock and Imagine Dragons!

  • Interview with Hemelbestormer

    22 Jul 2025 - Thorsten

Sometimes we just can’t skip our routine - originally we wanted to release this interview after the release of Hemelbestormer’s great new record “The Radiant Veil”. But for several reasons, among them a long list of interviews to publish, we stuck to our routine: Cool interviews with brilliant artists/bands releasing amazing records on Pelagic Records are released a few days ahead of the release. “The Radiant Veil” will be released on Friday, and so here we are! Filip and Frederik sat down with our head honcho and talked a lot about the new record, the return as a quartet, their collab with Philip from Caspian, how they open up to including vocals, Black Metal and much much more. Including the connection between the new Hemelbestormer-record and the old Etruscans! Enjoy!

  • Interview No. 2 with Umlaut

    20 Jul 2025 - Thorsten

What kind of music to expect when two guys from a famous American Avantgarde-Punk band get together again in a different band? Well, in the case of Umlaut you get Avant-Chamber Pop. And what do you get when talking to all four members of this band? You get one of the quirkiest, yet also most interesting interviews that we ever had on our channel. “Interesting” because the guys produce some strange side-noises, because they sometimes try to avoid clear answers but also because they show that underneath all the sarcasm and irony there are musicians who definitely know how to compose tracks and also to disguise their complexity. However, one should also take this interview as proof of maybe sometimes not interpreting music too much, because sometimes it’s just simply made to sound good. Enjoy our new interview with Umlaut!

  • Interview We_lost_the_sea

    17 Jul 2025 - Thorsten

First of all, we want to say thank you to We Lost The Sea’s wonderful Matt Harvey for taking the time to do this interview even though he only has a dodgy Australian internet (connection). We originally wanted to release this interview on July 6th, together with the Ranges interview and we also say so early on in the interview. However, life is what happens to you when you are busy making (other) plans, right? Therefore we had to postpone this release but it’s still on time for this Post.Festival where Matt and his gang will take the stage by storm! Life is also what happens, once WLTS started getting everything together and write “Blood will have Blood”, their longest track to date. By far! 27 minutes! How could that happen? Why does Thorsten mention The Witcher? And why is Matt referring to a black hole when talking about his music? Questions over questions! But now, enjoy our conversation with Matt from We Lost The Sea and tell us - what do you think about their 27-minute-monster?!

  • Interview Mark_molnar

    16 Jul 2025 - Thorsten

Mark Molnar is a new addition to Constellation (Records) which makes sense because, even though is from Ottawa, he spends a lot of time there, has a lot of musician friends from there, is a great composer and a wonderful performer - so it makes sense that he released his latest album “EXO” through Constellation on June 6, 2025. The record is a miraculous record combining Mark’s interest in the antique imagery of “pale death” and shows his amazing skills on the strings and the cello in particular. We talk a lot about the record and the way it appeals to people from multiple diverse scenes, the Vatican and their way of covering up their assets but also about the stuff he listens to and there’s one thing you might not expect. Which one? Well, you gotta listen to this cool interview and discover an artist you might not have heard of before but whose music is highly rewarding!

  • Interview Us_maple

    13 Jul 2025 - Thorsten

If you ever listened to Noise-Rock and/or Indie-Rock from the 90s, you probably did not get around the city of Chicago and its bands like Tortoise, Shellac, Big’N, the Sea and Cake or U.S. Maple, who released their game-changing debut record Long Hair in Three Stages 30 years ago. This year, just a few years ago, Skin Graft released a second re-issue of the record, with a “re-worked” artwork and on colored vinyl. As the record is a real eye-opener and surely changed the listening habits of many people ever since, we are very happy and proud to give you this interview with their singer Al, who gave us many details into the band, the recording session with Jim O’Rourke, his love for AC/DC and also how he ended up in the movie High Fidelity- enjoy!

  • Interview Thor_harris

    04 May 2025 - Thorsten

Thor Harris is not only a famous drummer and musician, he is also a great person - to talk to and to listen to. He has a way of talking about things that is just emotionally and intellectually engaging and makes you want to get to know more about him, his band Thor & Friends, his former bands (like Swans and Shearwater), his love for Prog-Rock and how it sparked his love for counting the time signatures and so much more. We also talk about him being a very political person and how he uses his position to make this world a better place - however, the central point of our conversation is, of course, the new record “Heathen Spiritual”, which will be released mid-May be Joyful Noise Recordings and, among other things, how a special recording environment was created for the recording! Enjoy our detailed interview with Thor and tell us which record he was on do you like best?

  • Interview Plq_mrx

    27 Apr 2025 - Thorsten

First Post-Roadburn interview - first GREAT one. Maybe a bit shorter as many of you are used to, but in a way that is also congruent to the length of the new EP Cumgitsum by Metro-Philadelphia based semi-anonymous outfit PLQ MRX. We got the chance to talk to one of their members, the mighty Midnight Moses (named after a song by the Sensational Alex Harvey Band). We chat about the sound of the band somewhere between Funk, Noise and Punk, about their very special songwriting process and much much more. Enjoy this appetizer for this EP and their next one which might come out in 2025 still! Enjoy!

  • Interview Thisquietarmy

    13 Apr 2025 - Thorsten

10 years after his legendary performance on the Forest Stage in Zottegem at dunk!festival Eric Quach aka thisquietarmy will return to Belgium, to dunk! and he will be playing a wonderful amazing record with a whole live band. Langue hybrid is his new record and the circumstances under which it was conceived are as remarkable as the music - thus it was the focus point of our interview, because there are so many sides to it. The other anniversary that TQA is having this year - because the project is turning 20 years old in 2025. And even though Eric points out that he has never been taught how to play the guitar, one thing remains clear: He is really good at it and surely has a knack for using it. That also becomes clear when listening to the new record which is simply sensational and will be released in a couple of days via our friends in Consouling Sounds!

  • Rb Interview Steve_von_till

    12 Apr 2025 - Thorsten

Roadburn 2025 Special Interview Number Six Steve von Till - there are artists which are part of the backbone of Roadburn festival and this guy surely is one of them, as he has performed in Tilburg with many of his projects and has also surely influenced a lot of us. Steve von Till will be one of the artists in residence this year with three “slots” for all of us to enjoy - once as part of collaboration with visual artist/tattoo artist Thomas Hopper, once as Harvestman, once presenting parts from his upcoming solo record, for which he will be bringing a special variant to Holland, so that Roadburners can get their hands on the new record four weeks before release! We talked with Steve about all three events, about what makes him write music constantly, about the disconnect between man and his roots and so much more. As usual he is a great person to talk to and as usual our head honcho left the interview feeling a little better as there seems to be a little bit of hope that we can turn things around - and certainly you will feel the same way after one of his performances at Roadburn, and hopefully after watching our third interview with Steve. Tell us - which did you like best by now?

  • Rb Interview Lane_shi

    05 Apr 2025 - Thorsten

Roadburn 2025 Special Interview Number Five: We are coming closer and closer and closer…in less than two weeks the most important pilgrimage will already have started and we here are contemplating which gigs to attend, how to fit food into the schedule and so on. One thing many of us can agree on is the importance of triennium artist Otay:Onii. Not only because of that special status which will bring her to Tilburg every year from now til 2027 - but because of the importance her music holds for many of us. Lane Shi combines so many elements pivotal to the festival - the emotional value of her music, the different approach to songwriting, the multiple genres she’s touching upon. An artist that cannot be boxed into one single category as one can also see by the fact that Lane designs a lot of the merch and things herself. We talked a lot about the different projects she will bring to RB, about her life as a constant migrant, a life in between, so to speak, and much much more. Enjoy our fifth interview in this Roadburn-Special-Series!

  • Rb Interview Foudre

    29 Mar 2025 - Thorsten

Roadburn 2025 Special Interview Number Four: 2023 saw Oiseaux-Tempête perform several gigs as Artists in Residence and this year one of the guys returns to Tilburg: Frédéric D. Oberland will performn with one of his other projects, Foudre! In a certain way, Foudre! is the perfect Roadburn-band because they are “located in between” - in between so many scenes, in between many different soundscapes and, yes, in between many different genres. Highly eclectic the trio (or as Frédéric says quartet) loves to pick elements from different artists and genres and then mix them according to a radiant recipe, even though it might be difficult to say whether it becomes a salad or a melted sauce. The guys definitely develop a very mighty pull-factor which will have some people excitedly dancing along to their songs, while other keep standing still but with their jaws wide open - but both groups will be listening to the same tracks. That also is one of the strongholds of Foudre! - to create soundtracks for everyone’s own individual enjoyment, everyone will bring his own background and ear to the table and will perceive the rich sounds differently, experiencing it in a very personal way. We talk about this experience and the way the tracks are created; we cover the differences between Foudre! and Oiseaux-Tempête and much much more! Enjoy and do not forget to check the landing page for our Roadburn Special on a regular basis!

  • Rb Interview Greet

    22 Mar 2025 - Thorsten

Roadburn 2025 Special Interview Number Three: Matthew Broadley is a multi-instrumentalist from England - and most of you will know him from his former band Dawn Ray’d - but the latter is not the reason for this interview but rather his new project Greet. The sound of Greet is based on the harmonium and he uses it to create long, breathing sounds that are close to Drone and Doom but of course based on Folk music, which is the third basis for the music he has given us on various releases on his Bandcamp including the EPs “Harmonium” and “Harmonium 2” (out via Fiadh Productions). The whole thing is very introspective, relying a lot on the environment in which it is performed and also, of course, on the reaction of the crowd. As we mention in the interview, it might not be music to mosh to (or maybe it is?) but it will give you a lot of introspective quality and provides a giant window to look into Matthew’s songwriting and soul. And honestly - what else could we want from music?

  • Rb Interview Messa

    15 Mar 2025 - Thorsten

This is already the second installment in our (let’s admit it now) weekly series of RB-related interviews - last week we gave you our interview with Choke Chain and just like the wonderful people at Roadburn do it, we are now giving you something very different - we talked with Sara and Rocco from Messa! Their new record “The Spin” will be played in full in Tilburg on the Friday and it is a more than cohesive concoction of two very “80s sounding” genres - Goth and Synthwave. However, Messa would not be Messa if they simply emulated those soundscapes, no, they took those and turned into elements of the Messa-sound. This gave us a lot of reason to talk about nostalgia, hunger for new adventures, the road and movements as symbols of their work and of course much more! Wait till you hear their “Careless Whisper”-story!

  • Rb Interview Choke_chain

    08 Mar 2025 - Thorsten

Let’s kickstart our interview series for Roadburn 2025 by doing exactly the same thing that makes RB so interesting to the people who have an open ear and a love for rabbit-holes. We sat down with Mark Trueman the guy behind Choke Chain, who is a person very different from his music but who uses it in order to get rid of things he doesn’t like. That in itself is a step beyond simple catharsis, as he also tries to expose the bad people in this world by pointing out that they’re really simply that - bad people. We talk about the ideas behind his music, about how he writes his songs and why he likes to play Roadburn so much! This guy will be a really cool act to watch on Friday night! Enjoy!
