Another week, another premiere, another mesmerizing song for all of you out there, another band from the never failing well that is the UK scene. Enjoy GHOLD and the video to their new single “Cauterise”!
Sludge can be a pretty difficult genre because it easily gets boring if one follows the “distortion plus swamp riffs”-formula. In that sense GHOLD is a wonderful counter-example, because their sound is heavily distorted, but incorporates a lot of minor details that really make this track (and also this band in general) outstanding. Be it the slightly subdued piano notes at the beginning, the slightly oversteered melodic element in the background before the vocals kick in or the extra instrumentation at the end, which sounds a bit like oriental influences, - all of them delivered with an astonishing ear for melody, harmony and, yes, listenability.
I know that this is their fifth full-length in ten years of existence and yet it feels a bit like a fresh start for the band and a chance to gain more followers as their last record was released six years ago and the upcoming record “Bludgeoning Simulations” is the first one after the pandemic and we all know how much of a watershed that has been. In that sense - do not forget to bookmark November 14, when the new record will be out via Human Worth!
You can pre-order it via Human Worth or via the band’s BC but now indulge in “Cauterise”!
