Frusen Sorg - Det Egentliga Livet

in

Today is our fifth birthday and apart from the cool interview we got another present for you - a premiere of a breathtaking new D-Beat song. Long live the Swedes of Frusen Sorg, long live Smärtpunkter and their video for “Det Egentliga Livet”!

“Det Egentliga Livet” is the first single of Frusen Sorg’s new album Smärtpunkter and it proves once again that you do not need a huge band to create huge sounds. Frusen Sorg (“Frozen Grief” in English) is veteran musicians Martin Sandström on guitar and drums and Kalle Mattson on bass and vocals - but together they sound like a quartet or even bigger! By the way, if the names ring a bell, that might be as they were both (are both?!?) in Ştiu Nu Ştiu whose last record New Sun we also reviewed..

Their upcoming record Smärtpunkter is supposed to be the result of one gigantic, spontaneous outburst of creativity as most songs are said to have been put together during one evening session! If that is true it is even more amazing than the songs itself. Songs?! Trailblazers! The songs are exactly as long as they need to be - for example our premiere today - “Det Egentliga Livet” is a tight 90 seconds and even takes time for an atmospheric intro of 17 seconds. Other bands would expand on this intro for a minute or two, maybe even more as it is perfectly arranged - but not so Kalle and Martin. They got what they needed and now the song is off to the races and hits us with relentless mid- to uptempo-drums and lightsaber riffs. No bridge or real chorus necessary, straight to the point, pedal to the metal.

Frusen Sorg rush through their songs with a manic (im)perfection of people who really know what they are doing and what they want to say. And the latter is surely a lot, as the band name already explains - this band is their coping mechanism for all the shit they had to go through. ´

You should check Frusen Sorg’s Bandcamp to not miss the pre-order but now enjoy this demonstratively quick D-Beat quake!
