Never worried about the idea that Industrial Metal and Goth music originated around roughly the same time? Me neither, but I just realised it while listening to the new record by Irreparable. The band from Down Under will release their new record The Fate of All Life on Friday and you can get the whole thing right here, right now - only at Veil of Sound!
This record is really something: You will find melancholic heaviness with mournful cello elements in a track like “Forever Remains”, pure bliss for all lovers of “the black”. The opener is an good way of opening a record in the vein of Ministry but not trying to sound like them. Then again there is some amazing Synth-Pop to be heard in the shape of “Failure to Thrive”. “Exposed” sounds as if Australia’s very own living Goth legend, Mr Cave, had an affair with idiosyncratic beat-machine Foetus - well, not an idea, but he surely knows JG and if you follow us closely later in the year, you might know how well. “140283” is an experiment in how far wide synth-spaces can be taken over an irregular, shifty beat and some expansive noise elements. You might ask where the Black Metal thing comes into play - just listen to the second track, “Upon Malignant Shores” which is so well composed that one needs to listen twice to it, to identify the seams of guitar riffs and Industrial elements. If you want to hear some amazing programmed blasts, this track is the right one for you.
The final opus, the eleven minute long “Death in a Time Capsule” surely knows how to incorporate all the elements of the tracks before - some harsh blastbeats, over wide-open synths, accompanied by some gutwrenching vocals, several shifts, different passages and re-connections between the many phases of the record: This track surely represents the best possible melange of everything that Irreparable stand for.
This band could perform at Wacken, at Hellfest, at Wave Gotik Treffen or at Damnation - it would fit each spot perfectly and bring a great flavour to these festivals. Fortunately, it’s probably not Vegemite. But one thing is for sure with Irreparable - the repeat button is your friend!
You can pre-order it via the These Hands Melt webshop or via the band’s BC. For now, we can only suggest you get your fair share of The Fate of All Life!
