Sugar Horse. A band in a realm of their own. A realm where fun and seriousness, sarcasm and thoughtfulness are not opposites but euqal chunks of a soundscape of their own. That phrase; “of their own“ – hardly can it be applied more correctly than in the case of Sugar Horse. Thus we at VoS are happy to premiere their new video for “Ex-Human Shield“!
The new track shows that dichotomy impressively: The video gives us a nostalgic, seemingly nostalgic cartoon set in outer space and there seems to be a connection to the former Soviet Union for the style of the images could be seen as a promotional video for Soviet space travel pre-1992. Some might consider a bit tongue in cheek and the band surely does not mind that mental connection. But the music is less child-orientated – it speaks very directly to “the scene“. It is heavy, crunchy, industrial but it is also melodic and, in parts, clean. The vigorous beats are combined with crisp guitar lines and when the song opens up to a wide, clean melodic middle part, the video also shows up wide open space spaces. To be clear – if that track is an indicator of how good the upcoming record Not a Sound in Heaven will be, then, my oh my, we are in for a heck of treat!
