Interview with Superchunk

Superchunk - Songs in the Key of Yikes

Publishing more than a dozen full-lengths, countless singles and EPs by your band, one or two side-projects and bands, running your own label - one might wonder how Mac McCaughan is abe to keep a straight smile and such a healthy appearance (the guy might distill his blood for make-up purposes and make millions with it!). The new record Songs in the Key of Yikes - a perfect nod to one of America’s greatest musicians! - is not meant derogatory but shows that a certain humor is still important in this day and age and even though some tracks have a dark title the band still has something positive to say. As Mac is also still heavily involved in Merge Records, we also talk about the label, US politics and the interconnections. He clearly points out the effects that the new administration has on running a label, on the costs and the possibilities for foreign bands to tour the States or American band of getting back into the USA. His openness is really refreshing in a day and age when speaking your mind can get your show taken off the airwaves. Enjoy our talk with Mac and tell us what you think - how heavily will the music scene suffer from this administration?
