The Shits gave us permission to premiere the video for their latest single “Thank You For Being A Friend” on Veil of Sound today. We are mighty thankful not only because it is part of their upcoming Rocket Recordings release but because the song amazingly illustrates a great German word: “Schnoddrigkeit”. Enjoy!
“Schnoddrigkeit” - a word uniquely German - means that you have a certain “I do not care at all and neither do I give a s***” attitude combined with a kind of sonic expression which consists of a kind of nasal intonation, carelessness about the endings of words and also a kind of Johnny Rotten-like punk singalong combined with a kind of disgust for (modern) society. On the first single “Joyless Satisfaction” that might not completely been the case as the guitar lines are very clearcut and keep a kind of steady, nearly psych-steady course. (Please do not mistake these lines as a kind of disrespect for the track, I love it buy 2 get 1 free-combo sound) On “Thank You For Being A Friend” you can hear a tiny bit less Psych and a bit more Noise-Rock - it follows a tidbit more in the path bulldozered by Today is the Day and especially Unsane, but of course with that kind of cool Yorkshire accent that one can simply not really imitate if you have not spent quite some time in the UK.
The track does not really care what you think about it - otherwise it would last nearly six minutes. This is stomping Noise-Rock between Brainbombs and Stooges, Bunuel and Bad Breeding. This is joy of life on the fast track without looking in the rearview mirror and not caring if you make the next sharp turn at 100mph or not. I have rarely heard such a great combo of Noise and Psych this year - befitting for a label like Rocket Recordings. You will surely enjoy this release and also the kind of stalker video for “Thank You For Being A Friend” which turned one of the opening sentences for a TV show theme song into a boisterous slogan!
Via Rocket Recordings‘ webshop or via the band‘s BC page you can easily pre-order the record in all its schnoddrig glory! The track simply oozes Schnoddrigkeit - oh, by the way - it means “brash”, “flippant”, “cheeky” or “impudent”. But you yourself decide which word befits the track best - tell us your choice?
