ØXN – why?

“Redefining Heaviness” has brought us new facets of heavy and musical experiences during the last decade of Roadburn. For everybody with an open mind, this has made the present version of the festival even more precious and a place called home. Spiritually at least. This openness has led to an inclusion of all kinds of musical forms, including Folk music. The heavy of the past has been rejuvinated and transformed to the here and now. Always being lyrically dark and brooding, it is now also heavy in sound. Different heavy nevertheless. A prime example for this is the Irish band Lankum. They are at the forefront of the modern Irish Folk scene that has taken the world by storm a couple of years ago. Nominated for the Mercury Prize they made their first impact at RB last year. But now you will have the rare opportunity to experience how much more the people behind the band and their scene have to offer. Besides One Leg One Eye (with Ian Lynch from Lankun, go see them too at the same very day!) two members of the band (singer Radie Peat and drone-loving producer John ”Spud” Murphy) will unleash their Doom-ladden Irish Folk experiment ØXN. Together with singer/keyboardist/guitarist Katie Kim and drummer Eleanor Myler of Experimental Rock band Percolator they might be even better and more impactful than the acclaimed Lankum, making this a performance not to miss!

ØXN’s music is deeply atmospheric and emotionally resonant, combining traditional Folk elements and evocative vocals with experimental textures from Noise and Noise Rock to Doom and Drone. Think of an Irish Folk version of PJ Harvey meets later-era Scott Walker mixed with flourishes of The Cure and Swans. Their live performance is sure to be an immersive and transformative experience.

ØXN is a relatively new project, and opportunities to see them live are rare. Roadburn 2025 offers a unique chance to witness this extraordinary band in an environment that celebrates their artistry and innovation. Don’t miss ØXN at Roadburn 2025.

ØXN will perform on Saturday, April 19!
