Kakihara - Love Songs Part 2 (EP)

in

Here comes a raw and untamed feral musical attack from Scotland.

The band has its debut out on Ripcord Records with this EP that is fast, furious, engaging, and utterly fetching. Kakihara is essentially a live band with a knack for DIY aesthetics. And man, how well they have managed to transfer that into this release.

Mathcore is not for the faint-hearted, especially not this brutal assault from Kakihara. With all the raging fury that is going on in the nine minutes the EP lasts, when you listen to it, it seems longer on the inside than on the outside.

The EP opens with “I Just Want To Forget” - fast, complex riffing, relentless and diverse fast drumming, throbbing bass, and fierce vocals. It is like a refreshing slap in your face and gets your attention at once. Being a subgenre of Hardcore Punk, there is no reprieve or breathers through the EP. Living up to the expectations of Mathcore, the music is turbulent and complex, with constant shifting rhythms that make it somewhat delightfully unpredictable. And the raging vocals add a lot to the intensity of the music. It is just uncompromising hard, heavy, and distorted music that ends suddenly with the song “It’s Going To Be Okay”.

And that is also a message to the listeners: If you want a release from the stress up to Xmas, this is the medicine. Just put on the EP, take a few spins to take the stress off and let the steam out. Then you will be okay for another day - maybe even two.
