Of Mountains and Seas - s/t

in

Well, today is another premiere day here at Veil of Sound and we are so happy to premiere the self-titled debut by Of Mountains and Seas in all its Ambient splendour and believe - there’s a lot of it!

You can see the close connection between the artwork and the record only by looking at its tracklist and the cover. The former includes track titles like “Pegasus”, “Andromeda” but also “Home” and, maybe most important - “Dad are we alone”. The cover shows a couple in the foreground, a child in the center and four cut-ups from the sky, the Milky Way and beyond. The connection between artwork and tracklist is obvious - the record is about family and the universe. And additionally, inherently clear, our place in all in the grander scheme of things. The key track on the record is surely “Dad are we alone” which is not only another mesmerizing Ambient piece but also contains snippets between OMAS mastermind Aurelien and his son, who seems to be a curious boy and thus Aurelien had to find ways to explain to him what our spot is, what the bigger picture is and what we can do. In these times it seems as if we can only sit back and watch the world and our society collapse beneath our feet and crumble in our fingers. In that sense Of Mountains and Seas is a soundtrack to the end of the world - but it is not overwhelming or overpowering, it is rather soothing, trying to give us a room to breathe. This breath can coincide with some wonderful post-rocky Ambient tracks some very spherical, other in part danceable. All of them are instrumentals and shall provide room for our thoughts and feelings, fears and (yes) thankfull-ness for being able to experience the end of it all with our loved ones. Thank you dad, uhmm…. Aurelien!

You can get the record digitally via OMAS’s Bandcamp page or order a CD version via Shimmering Moods Records and now enjoy our premiere for “Brotherhood of Sleep”!
