The two veterans of the Oslo metal underground, Ronny Flissundet and Kristian Liljan, who form Rule of Two, continue to explore the possibilities in the electronic realms of the 80s and 90s, mixing it with some modern Darkwave. We here at Veil of Sound are proud to premiere their next installment today - a single called ”Speechless” and the accompanying video. The video is kaleidoscopic, immensely creative and takes you through many emotions, from cosmic beauty to busy urban life to eerie blurred figures in indistinct, crowded streets.
The song is a taste of what is to come on their first full-length album that will be released this autumn. It is, as they say themselves a “thumping electronica upbeat track, a dreamy and catchy journey through a universe of strange imagery, where you never want to leave. With strong 80’s and 90’s influences it still sounds fresh and new, as the perfect hybrid of Alternative Indie.”
The song opens with eerie soft sounds and soft bass thumps in the distance before it morphs into engaging beats and an abundance of sounds from synths immersing the translucent, near whispering, vocals opening with the lines: ”Say something nice / Say something else than lies / Say something that rather will suffice”. There is a subtle shift and the music widens, providing more room to the vocals singing a captive melodic theme. It is very textured and layered and fast-paced, with heavy beats. The beats stop and give room to a comfortable space of synths floating and widening with a dark undertone. Afterwards it morphs back into the engaging rhythmic beats supporting the disconnected floating vocals following an intriguing melody until the end.
If you want to know more about this intriguing musical project, there is a video interview with the two musicians on our Youtube channel and we also reviewed their debut EP in June of 2024.
Additionally, the guys provided us with a playlist, showing us the musical inspirations behind their explorations blending genre into a new whole of music.
