Many, many moons ago, our little page sparked a deep friendship and love for the Belgian scene through our friends at Consouling Sounds and many personal relations with bands and acts like Slow Crush, Psychonaut, Hemelbestormer, Pothamus, A Place in Between, Mara … wait Mara? Okay, this is a new one and a good one. And one you can enjoy here, first. Only on VoS! Enjoy!
A Place in Between is a wonderful project by Gert Stockmans and we were fortunate enough to be allowed to do a premiere for one of their first songs. Since then the project has grown but has not remained Gert’s only hunting grounds. During the Covid pandemic he created Samatha, an Ambient playground where he can show his love for the calmer sides. And now - Mara, which is somehow like a darker twin of Samatha. The music is heavier, deeper and very hypnotic in a way. In a way it combines a lot of aspects from A Place in Between as well as Samatha, but at the same time, the new project and this premiere track is a lot darker, coming from a deeper space. The project’s name comes from a Buddhist personification of illusion and temptation, trying to show up what lies beneath the calm surface - and we all know that there lies the realm of turmoil and chaos. And there is this somewhat disturbing element in the Mara-soundverse as well. We are very happy to give you the premiere of the video to “Seeker of Shadows”! Enjoy Mara and viva Mr Stockmans!
