Italy, land of the sun, the water, the food, the music! Mainfold scenes are stretching all across mainland Italy and the islands - need another one? How about Livorno’s Platonick Dive who will be releasing their new record Take a Deep Breath on Friday through Moment of Collapse Records. Here on Veil of Sound you can listen to the new record two days ahead of the release!
Formed back in 2010, the band released three full-lengths (2018’s Social Habits being the last one) and a remix-EP and now they are back with their new outing called Take A Deep Breath and their Indie-sound tinged Post-Rock is a very warm affair with many of the soundscapes purvey a sense of opening your car window (or getting the top down, if possible), enjoy a warm late summer evening, when the sun is already setting somewhere beyond Pacific Coast Highway 1 or the most scenic roads along the Amalfi coast. The airwaves are filled with the warm air and wonderful guitar work which is sometimes supported by the ethereal but nevertheless strong sounds provided by the elegant electronics interspersions. The tracks also support that feeling with titles like “Falls Road”, “Santa Monica” or “Blue Hour” even though, of course is not connected to sunset but rather sunrise. The songs will be a perfect soundtrack with a lot of energy and sometimes even a certain 80s aesthetic - just listen to “Falls Road” which sometimes sounds a tiny bit like one of the 80s AOR songs like “Learning to Fly” or “The Boys of Summer” even though of course the better references for Platonick Dive would be Yndi Halda, Efterklang or Explosions in the Sky.
You can now wait for the next rays of sunshine to enjoy Take a Deep Breath or you can just sit back and relax to the 12 songs and roughly 40 minutes here. And you can order your copy from Moment of Collapse Records!
