Executioner's Mask - ... Almost There

in

Man, Philly you should be proud to have a band like Executioner’s Mask! Their new record …Almost There will be released in less than 24 hours and you should all the dancing in public, with loads of dope, guns and effin in the streets! We here at the Veil of Sound are proud to present our beloved audience the record in full!

As said before (and as will be said again and again), whatever Jay Gambit puts his hand on, it turns into aural gold, the guy is like Midas (hopefully without the same tragic end). No matter if it’s Crowhurst, his numerous contributions for bands like Dragged into Sunlight, White Ward, or our beloved 夢遊病者 (Sleepwalker, check out our interview with them here) OR for roughly five years now as the vocalist for Executioner’s Mask - the guy has a knack for melodies and how to counteract beauty with darkness or noise. Jay mentioned to me earlier that one of his friends had called the new EM record “a beautiful or nice record” and yes, it might be true that there’s a little less Noise on … Almost There but only on a non-committed first spin. For example listen to “Losing a Fixed Game”: Not only does the track end in some short noisey feedback but the way that there seems to be a distorted wall of sound in front of the guitar lines which is always a bit rowdy, a bit harsher than the one behind that veil - that is in a way Noise. Additionally, remember that Executioner’s Mask serves a different idea than e.g. Crowhurst - this Darkwave meets Gothic Rock meets Post-Punk baby is not meant to drive you away but rather to invite you to hugs for free! I for myself have enjoyed every track, every minute and every melody on … Almost There and I know that there will follow a few more spins before I am there, before I have completely gripped the intricacies behind the record.

You can now listen to and enjoy the whole thing here and get yourself a copy from Seeing Red Records!
