Need a reason to attend Saetia? Here you go!
Saetia is a band that goes full circle for me. One end of that circle is young me, roughly 28, 29 years ago, when I discovered the early forms of what we now call Screamo. Saetia from New York City were one these bands that sounded fresh, different, new and affirmative in their own form of Hardcore. It showed a sound from my favorite city that was not macho and bullying (like several early 90s NYC bands that made it big). It was introspective but by sharing the inner problems and turmoil it was able to release to vent own’s one hazardous emotions without feeling like the odd one out.
The other end of the circle is this performance by a band that because of their songs, records and message is as relevant, different and affirmative today as it was back then, when I never got the chance to catch them live. This one is one of a handful of sets that I will not miss this weekend, because it will proof that we are not alone in all our struggle and that we can rely on the person next to us to help lift that bundle on my (hunch)back for the duration of this set - because that is what great Hardcore bands and songs do for us!
