Birth and Loss - Untitled EP

in

Doesn’t everybody need some chaos in life every once in a while? A bit of madness and sometimes madness inside the madness? Well, many of us do and when thinking in musical terms, there are hardly any things more chaotic than Grindcore but when that one is not done is a straight line but with tinges of breathers, hints of Noise-Rock and you-name-it, then it becomes even more interesting doesn’t it? Entrance Birth and Loss and their Untitled EP which we proudly present today!

Grindcore is basically a Punk genre, right? And in most cases, real Punksters do not give a damn whether they assumed any kind of status during their active time – but in the case of Takafumi Matsubara one should ascertain that notion, I mean the guy was in bands like Gridlink or Hayaino Daisuki and released on HydraHead or Willowtip Records among others. Now his new band Birth and Loss release their untitled debut EP containing six tracks and a little bit more than ten minutes via Roman Numeral Records. What do we get? Well, vocally we get rough-hoarsing, blood-gushing, throat-ripping shouts, screams, spoken-worded, guttural, gurgling lyrics in Japanese whose meaning might be lost in translation, but rest assured, he is not trying to sell any insurances because listening to the tracks, one can imagine him going all in on each of them when performing them, no matter whether it’s inside the studio or on stage. What do we get musically? We get a lot of hyper-fast, light-overtaking riffs, the full pedal-to-the-metal idea. However, there is more to the record, there are some breathers, some atmospheric elements, some slower midtempo passages bordering on Oi-structures – but don’t worry, the next second is just around the corner and with that also the next new element that tries to give a full lobotomy without any anesthetics! Wonderful. Just what I sometimes need in order not to go completely berserk – because these guys have already done it! This is the kind of modern, a little adventurous and experimental kind of Grindcore that I cannot get enough of (at one moment, I even thought I heard a slight bit of envy-influences, but then again, that was erased!).

You can order this short bit of chaos and madness from Roman Numeral Records. And now, dive deep for about ten minutes into the electric eclecticity of the Untitled EP.
