Brévine - Cîme

in

Brévine is a newcomer to our scene and, like many modern bands, they display a level of professionalism new bands just didn’t have 30 years ago. Their Post-Metal is shifty and embellished with many details here and there and just makes sense! These Hands Melt surely got their hands on a promising new band and Brévine’s video for their first single “Cîme” surely melted our synapses - thus we are proud to give you this premiere!

This performance video shows a band that surely knows what they’re doing and who posesses the means to give life to their ideas the best possible way. “Cîme” (“the Peak”) features heavy riffs which are partially sludgey, partially proggish, a great rhythm section that pushes the song forward whenever necessary or suitable and yet the most impressive feature of this more than eleven-minute monster is the way that the (extra) orchestral parts (provided by someone outside the band) provide extra layers of density and context. It’s these elements that give the soundscapes that The Ocean-character. The fact that their singer also sounds a little bit like Loic might be derived from their similar roots in the French-speaking part of Switzerland (could this be an accent-related thing?) is, of course, nothing but a surplus! Coming back to the extra parts arranged by Mirjam Skal - the way they fit to the band’s general idea of what their songs should sound like is proof to their communicative skills - having something fit like a glove is not an easy task to achieve if you cannot give words to your ideas!

Brévine might be a newcomer band (formed only in 2023), but heck I hope they turn into veterans because that kind of sound is just perfect for live performances and deep enough for some longer headphone sessions.

The pre-order for their record LHOTSE will be up June 13 via These Hands Melt, so keep an eye open on the label’s Bandcamp page! And now see for yourself - here’s the video for Brévine’s “Cîme”!
