The idea for this record is already a few years old, its performance happened a little under a year ago and tomorrow we can hold the result in our hands - the drummer of Japanese Noise pioneers Ruins partnered up with Massimo and Luca, the core Italian veterans Zu, for a collaboration record! And today we here at VoS can present you Jazzisdead Live as a premiere for your exquisite pleasure!
The three guys are old friends so the idea for the collaboration was fleshed out some time ago - each side would pick six songs from the body of work of the other and then they’d perform these twelve tracks together on stage. That tour took place in 2024 and it had 23 dates, the last of which was the Jazzisdead Festival in Italy and that performance then was recorded and given to Subsound Records.
The album is pretty cool (in the best possible sense) because it combines the exhilarating and energetic elements of Zu and the highly shifty drumming of Tatsuya Yoshida. In other words - the audience gets the best of both worlds with this combination. Even the vocals, which sometimes adorn the songs never seem out of place but fit in like another instrument providing a melody that can be both - a guiding light through the difficult tracks and another harmony line that supports the very foundation of the songs.
