Somewhere within the music of Monnik’s upcoming record lies an audible connection to the core of human belief, no matter the system. Thus we are very happy to premiere the video for his new track “Wederopverisenisse” taken from his upcoming album out via Consouling Sounds on April 4!
When listening to the sounds of Monnik’s new song one can feel a certain contemplative quality to it - the layers upon layers of sound, some analogue, some probably not. Surely not a coincidence as Belgian artist Thibaud Meiresone chose the moniker “Monnik”, which is translated as “monk”, and also lives the life of a self-proclaimed hermit; spirituality is not something he takes jokingly. His music could be used in many ritualistic contexts - be it Christian, Pagan or tribal, or also as part of a group (for examples a convent) or also individually (as an hermit) - one thing is for sure: This is music to sit down to, to let it flow through you and lead you into unchartered territory with nothing but your own feeling as a guidelight. The fact that Thibaud composed these tracks after reading the same-titled book (by the way - “Belidenisse” means “Confessions”) by early Christian theologian and philosopher Saint Augustine of Hippo, who in his book spoke about his journey towards his own “belief”. Therefore, in a way, this record can be seen as Thibaud’s memoire of his own journey. Fitting, very fitting.
Of course you can pre-order the record over at Consouling Sounds’ webstore (here in its pink variant) but now - I invite you to listen and to reflect to the sounds of “Wederopverisenisse”!
