Rūmǐnor - Flew Mirrored on the Water

in

Recorded in a studio in Tazmania with a view overlooking a lot of water, surrounded in the back by some wonderful scenery, the second single of new-Ambient trio Rūmǐnor sounds nothing like its surroundings. “My Body Will Move Across the Earth” is exactly that - a very earthy track which we are happy to premiere right here on VoS!

Frying Pan Studios in Hobart, Tazmania is a seemingly magical spot or as the guys who are running this studio inside a museum call it “A recording studio in a museum at the bottom of the world.” The place became somewhat famous when they acquired the old Abbey Road recording console ten years ago. A console which was used, amongst others, by some smaller bands you might have heard of: Pink Floyd and the Beatles.

This acquisition sparked a thought within Namazu, Sam Haven, and Saleeha, the members of Rūmǐnor to write a piece together and to record exactly there. With this historic console. At Frying Pan. In Hobart. Way down under. So the whole writing process was concerned with the idea and question of what to do in that space with that desk. Another mighty interesting fact should be noted: The three come from very different backgrounds and thus it was not only a question of “Where?” or “How?” but of course also the ever-difficult one of “What?”

Well, that “What?” can be explained pretty well with listening to their second single, “My Body Will Move Across the Earth” - a track that might be a perfect intro to a complete live rendition of Thrice’s “Earth”-part from their magical Alchemy Index. Or the soundtrack to an auteur version of the events after Sergio Leone’s Dollar-trilogy, when the dust has settled and the townsfolk talk about a decade later. Or simply for your home stereo pleasure. The song is a wonderfully floating Ambient affair with a bewitching, calming guitar motif leading you through the near nine minutes of Old Wild Western contemplation. Like Badalamenti working with William Elliott Whitmore and being produced by Eno. A track that will soothe a lot of people’s nerves and give pleasant shivers to others.

Are all the tracks on Flew Mirrored on the Water like this? Well, you can find out in a matter of weeks, when the record will be self-released by the trio on November 29! And now, lay back, tune in and enjoy!
