Youniss – why?

It’s not a secret that I’ve got a particular attraction to the music that have Middle-Eastern and North African sounds, and Youniss is one of my most recent discoveries. As he wrote on his Bandcamp: “As an exploration of identity and self-expression, Youniss moves his way through the awkward, intrusive feelings that accompany performing as a black man with an Arabic name through the gaze of the western world.”
His music is a perfect blend of Post-Punk, Hip-Hop, Electronica and Experimentalism. The music of Youniss Ahmad talks about his difficulties of being a black person in a capitalist society, and each track is capable of transmitting something to the listener in a clear way.
Take a listen to his last EP from 2024 called “Do We Try Beyond The Edge?” and I think you’ll understand what I’m trying to tell you. This is music with a message – a clear, important and urgent message, Additionally, his LP from 2023 “White Space” will let you feel the emotions experienced by Youniss with his engaging music and heartbreaking lyrics.
If you’ll be at Roadburn this year, you should go see live Youniss!
Youniss will perform on Saturday, April 19!
