Ex-Easter Island Head – why?

Dream-like. Mathy. Elegant. Poppy. It is really difficult to get a grip on what makes Ex-Easter Island Head so unique. First of all, we should clarify that their pop-affinity is not a goal they are striving for; if a song turns out to have strong connections to “popular” music it is the result of a quirky understanding of beats and noises. The search for the unusual soundscape, the diverse sources of sound and then again the question of what to make of all the sheer endless possibilities. The guys from Liverpool create a sound one would normally not associate with the city that guys us the Fab Four. It is music that exists on its own right, not hewn from a specific place or soil but that it placeless and in a way also timeless. Not specifically bound to a certain setting they create songs with multiple myriads of sound layered upon each other. Tracks that are proactively danceable, but not in the Ed Banger-techno way but rather with a kind of minimalist approach. Each single layer (including different wind instruments or horns, or even something that sounds like a flute) is not pushy and dominating – it serves the idea of the track. If you are looking for something very different, even for Roadburn standards, these guys will be it!
Ex-Easter Island Head will perform on Thursday, April 17!
