Cinder Well – why?

Every here and then you have to refresh or re-adjust your brain and mind with something else, something that doesn´t overwhelm you by sheer force or volume, but gives you nevertheless a rich and deep emotional impact. Something that let´s your mind wander, rest and process the impressions and experiences you have collected, to anchor them in yourself and by that giving you something of lasting value. After a couple of days at Roadburn, this will surely be the case and Amelia Baker with her brainchild Cinder Well will be the one to provide you with this important possibility.
On Roadburn Sunday, which will be already be a day of different experimental takes on genres we have come to love in our community, like Black Metal (Vuur & Zijde, Bacht´n de Vulle Moane), Industrial/Doom/Drone (Insect Ark, ENDON, Big Brave, Ponte del Diavolo) and Folk (Frente Abierto, Michael Gira), Cinder Well will fittingly perform between sets of ENDON and Big Brave. A great possibility to recollect yourself. Her soothing, but emotionally heavy take on folk, is close to the sound and feeling of later-era 40 Watt Sun/Patrick Walker, who has been largely responsible for getting Cinder Well on the bill.
Amelia´s background in the DYI Punk scene of California most probably has helped her to connect mindset-wise to the modern Irish Folk scene and especially the band Lankum, as two of this band have been involved in her latest album Cadence (2023) (John ”Spud” Murphy, production and Cormac MacDiarmada, fiddle). But with Cinder Well you have to strip away the doom/drone -elements of the aformentioned, highly-influental band. Here it´s all about the pure essence of the voice, with subtle musical flourishes accompanying Amelia´s spellbinding delivery.
You will experience Laurel Canyon and Irish Folk, the vastness of the blue ocean and the green majestic landscape opening up in front of you, a meditative background to reflect upon, matched with a beautiful voice that evokes the deepest of (your) feelings. Don´t miss this possibility – for your own good!
Cinder Well will perform on Sunday, April 20!
